Make Up For Hollow Eyes

update of the Garmin Oregon 300

Jaa, even if the title sounds a bit unusual to some, because they check their firmware updates on a daily basis - I'm more the type who is happy to run if the driver and become cautious with updates. It all started ages ago when I checked my Siemens cell phone providers to store and brought it 2 hours there lies, so they could update the firmware. In itself a problem, however, was significantly slower than any phone then before. Real achievements brought the then firmware updates also, so I really annoyed me more than that I was happy ...

In contrast, I was until I had a desktop PC as your computer, always hot to the latest graphics card drivers to the system to push a bit that worked mostly very good. Now I own a notebook, however, and somehow there only once every blue moon again an update for the graphics chip, I been playing too much anyway (currently still rather very little because I have only a netbook at the start) and my Siemens cell phone I do not update anymore anyway ...

There are, however, that device, which accompanied me on my caching adventures for almost 2 years always right true: My Garmin Oregon 300th I used it in March 2009 by Lubeca (2 weeks ago) had bought, it was already configured and up to date then I did not at first touched, because I had no idea of the software itself, then a few times in between updated, until I eventually reach the Garmin Topo Germany v3 came. That came on it directly, in the background was the OSM, on the routes I was super and everything. And what I've learned many times before: If it works and runs, not modify it! Therefore, my last firmware update was in December 2009 (Version 3.2) ...

Since there are now chirp caches and because I saw yesterday on Oregon Peacemakers held that it now caches can filter by size / Terrain / Difficulty, I had to update the Oregon easy. And so today I've just installed WebUpdater gebackupt everything and run the update to version 4.1. Everything worked great until I discovered the little mistake: In my last update it was so that the new language file for the menus Deutsch.gtt said, but he reads the "German.gtt" and was still old. Was the name of all my new menus Sight 'N Go , Man over board , Waypoint averaging etc. and the old ones were in German - how ugly! The whole was remedied by the German.gtt renamed (for example, in German_alt.gtt, so that one does not have, if what is not) and the Deutsch.gtt logically renamed German.ggt. Then he read the new text file and was good.

fix all and clever as I am I thought that this time seem so runs But what you think! Unfortunately, it did not work and I had Sight 'N Go , Man over board , Waypoint averaging and Evalation plot in my menu list. I also got the right message "Trouble finding satellites. Continue?" In English. And because I'm not a typical girl, I've just looked at the files and found that missing in the new file Deutsch.gtt simply the German naming. If I would just use the older German.gtt , all brand new menus as quick filter would (submenu of geocaches) on the English language. So I have inserted with a little brains here and there and now what I've got a nice German.gtt, which should have actually filled the main gaps. Did you have this error too? Since I do not know if it's up to me or just anyone else cares, because we're all in the English language are powerful, I have just uploaded yet again - maybe they still benefit someone:

Download the modified German.gtt

Simply insert the navi in Garmin / Text / and be happy. Before the old German.gtt backuppen! Everything at your own risk, of course, who knows if I've missed somewhere and just do not even know (which, moreover, in such an unimportant file as a voice file may not always could have so many effects).

But still short of the main innovations of the update: you can now filter cache and I now have icons from the cache when they Geocache look are listed. It will look something like this:

Actually a very great thing, but I just noticed that after playing around a bit already 3 times the button Quick Filter menu appears geocaches. Can someone explain to me whether this is so or whether it is a bug? And how do I get away again?

For answers, I would be grateful .

Until next time, and good night!
